In the article are presented problems of promotion of health and health education. Its first part concerns theoretical analysis of the phenomena discussed; various ways of understanding the basic concepts and implications for preparation and implementation of prophylactic programmes resulting from them are presented. The second part is devoted to the analysis of the situation in the educational system which arose afer educational reforms due to its chances and dangers for health promotion and education. Forms of work with pupils which make it possible to realise the content connected with health protection are characterised.
