It brings impulses for the perception of the differences between commercially successful songs appearing in books and collections of folk songs that have been published correctly from the professional point of view as well from the point of view of documentation. The contribution outlines the connections between protection of traditional culture as well as the current search for the 'authentic' material influencing the repertoire of the folklore collectives in Slovakia.
