The article is devoted to the interpretation of two Czech place-names - Louny and Lounky. According to the authoress, these toponyms reflect the hydrological and pedological situation of the given localities: they are probably connected with the non-attested common noun '*lun' and '*loun' (muddy place). The muddy terrain in the investigated localities is proved by historical and historical-geographical works, as well as by the contemporary descriptions of regional researchers.
