The paper aims to describe the contribution of Ivan Pankievich (1887-1958), the scholar from Western Ukraine, who systematically collected linguistic data and folklore in the region of Western Ukraine and Ukrainian localities in Eastern Slovakia. He cooperated with his students and Ukrainian intelligentsia from the region of Western Carpathians. Pankevich published his results in the local Ukrainian as well as Czech and Slovak periodicals.
