Aims and assumptions. The aim of this study was to show the impact of low level laser stimulation of BAP (Biologically Active Points), responsible for involuntary control of the bronchi and lungs, on selected spirometric parameters characterising respiratory capacity in patients with acute stages of COPD. Material and method. The study was conducted on a group of 40 patients, who had been divided into two subgroups - the control group and the research group, which, apart from the standard treatment, had been subjected to laser stimulation. Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed-Ranks Test and Mann-Whitney U Test were used for the purposes of statistical analysis. Conclusions. Findings showed a significant improvement (p < 0.01) of FVC, FEV1 and PEF in the research group, which confirms that inclusion of laser stimulation in rehabilitation of patients with acute stages of COPD might be beneficial.
