The order-theoretic enrichment of the algebraic approach to theoretical computer science, and to the theory of programming in particular, can be accomplished rather directly and elegantly, and appears to have a wide range of applications. This paper presents mathematical fundamentals of order-algebraic semantics. The principal new results concern free continuous algebraic theories and minimal conditions...
We experimentally demonstrate the magnetic mirror behavior of all-dielectric metasurfaces at optical frequencies through phase measurements using time-domain-spectroscopy. The unique boundary conditions of magnetic mirrors can lead to advances in sensors, photodetectors and light sources.
The polarization properties of GaN nanowire lasers are studied experimentally by analyzing their end-facet emission. We demonstrate that the polarization state varies for different transverse modes. Linear and elliptical polarizations are observed in our measurements.
We study lasing in individual top-down fabricated GaN nanowires by optical pumping. We observe single mode emission with a side mode suppression of 15 dB, linewidths of less than 1 nm and thresholds as low as 250 kW/cm2.
In a wide variety of situations, computer science has found it convenient to define complex object as (fixed-point) solutions of certain equations. This has been done in both algebraic and order-theoretic settings, and has often been contrasted with other approaches. This paper shows how to formulate such solutions in a setting which encompasses both algebraic and order-theoretic aspects, so that...
