We report the rapid recovery and identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis within 48 h of receipt of the clinical specimen. This was accomplished using a combination of the BACTEC MGIT 960 (BD Diagnostic Systems, Sparks, MD), cytocentrifugation, and the M. tuberculosis Accuprobe (Gen-Probe, Inc., San Diego, CA).
