A new design for a reconfigurable antenna using electrically actuated liquid-metal tuning elements is presented. Liquid-metal slugs vary the electrical length of a resonant slot aperture, changing the operational frequency of the antenna across a 36% tunable bandwidth. The fluidic channels are fabricated with polydimethylsiloxane and are fully sealed with integrated DC actuation pads, providing enhanced...
An electrically actuated liquid-metal RF switch with an operating range of two octaves is presented. The liquid metal in the switch is actuated by continuous electrowetting, and a trapped air bubble is used as a low-loss dielectric spacer. This shunt switch operates from 4 to 16 GHz with greater than 10 dB isolation.
A tunable amplifier using reconfigurable liquid-metal double-stub tuners is presented. The impedance tuners are implemented using liquid-metal slugs that are electrically actuated using continuous electrowetting. The amplifier can be configured to multiple frequency states from 3.37 to 6.02 GHz by adjusting the physical lengths of the liquid-metal double-stub tuners.
This paper presents a frequency-tunable slot antenna which uses liquid metal to vary the electrical length of the radiating aperture. The liquid metal is driven by continuous electrowetting (CEW), a process by which motion is induced in a liquid-metal droplet through the application of a potential gradient across an electrolytic carrier fluid. The process is both fully reversible and repeatable, and...
