Bile acids constitute a large family of steroids in vertebrates, normally formed from cholesterol and carrying a carboxyl group in a side-chain of variable length. Bile alcohols, also formed from cholesterol, have similar structures as bile acids, except for the absence of a carboxyl group in the steroid skeleton. The conversion of cholesterol to bile acids and/or bile alcohols is of major importance...
A study is being conducted on the Wildcat Fault in Berkeley, California, to develop a methodology for characterizing the hydrologic properties of a fault. The geologic setting of the San Francisco Bay Area is intertwined with some of the most complex and active geology in the world. The rocks are extensively sheared and fractured. The Wildcat, a strike‐slip fault, appears to consist of multiple fault...
A 300MHz 16bit 0.5??m BiCMOS Video Signal Processor (VSP) has been developed. The VSP is sufficient in itself for encoding full-CIF data at 30 frames/second. Clock frequency and coding capability are improved by factors of 1.2 and more than 2, respectively over those for a 250MHz VSP developed in 1991 [1].
