The growth mechanism for the graphite crystallites in polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based carbon fibers, heat-treated at various temperatures, has been proposed. The evolution of distribution morphologies for graphite crystallites is investigated, in relation to variations in the tensile properties of the fiber samples. At high temperatures, dangling bonds are created via the cleavage of weak bonds, such...
Hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) and sulfide stress cracking (SSC) of both acicular ferrite and ultrafine ferrite in H 2 S environments were evaluated. The results show that the two microstructures have the optimum HIC resistance as well as the good mechanical properties. Moreover, acicular ferrite has the better SSC resistance than ultrafine ferrite.
