Recent advancements in the field of material science have created several novel materials whose electromagnetic (EM) properties make them ideal candidates for use as radar absorbing materials (RAM). The new types of RAM materials can be applied as very thin layers of paints and still maintain their absorption effectiveness making them ideal for radar cross section (RCS) reduction on aircraft, bridges,...
In this paper, a method was presented for accurately determining the complex CP of a material sample using a single SCL waveguide measurement. An analytic expression for the complex reflection coefficient at the reference plane of the waveguide serves as the forward problem in the novel MPSQP algorithm. The MPSQP is a very robust optimization technique which exploits the speed and accuracy of SQP...
In this presentation the conventional skin depth is compared with a modified skin depth that considers a finite thickness conductor, and with an effective skin depth that also considers wave reflection at the backside of the conductor. The comparison yields recommended thickness ranges over which each version of skin depth is accurate
In this paper, a method was presented for accurately determining the complex CP from individual layers within a multilayer sample using S-parameter waveguide measurements. MPSQP, a modification of SQP, provided a simple mechanism to avoid local minima trapping while still obtaining the global minimum in a short amount of time. Comparison of the extracted CP to those of the SCL method showed that the...
In this paper, a FEM simulation of the power, energy and electron density traits occurring in the atmosphere resulting from lightning induced electron enhancement was presented. The general traits were found to be in good agreement with the observations. Additional details are presented at the conference
A general optimization scheme for the autonomous design of transverse waveguide filters has been presented. By employing a novel genetic algorithm in conjunction with a commercial FEM software package, the technique demonstrated here is readily applicable to a wide variety of waveguide filter problems. Specifically, the method was shown to yield excellent results for notch and bandpass filter responses...
A technique for introducing an infinite-appearing plane wave into a two-dimensional transmission line matrix (TLM) network is described. The method has been applied to the calculation of the bistatic RCS for a plane wave normally incident on a conducting square cylinder.<<ETX>>
The properties of bismuth and tellurium microbolometers are presented. The Te devices are shown to have responsivities approximately 100 times that of the more conventional Bi microbolometers. The Te device impedance is, however, much larger than Bi microbolometers of comparable size. To the authors' knowledge, the Te device has the highest responsivity yet reported for a microbolometer detector.<<ETX>>
