A rare-earth-rich iron carbide phase commonly observed in annealed cast magnets of Nd 10 Dy 6 Fe 76 B 1 C 7 composition has been characterized using electron diffraction. The crystal structure is identified as hexagonal with unit cell parameters a = 0.462 nm, c = 0.787 nm and c/a 1.7. The ratio of R to Fe is estimated to be about 2/3.
