Line emission of N2 and time-resolved electron density are measured in a several centimeter long plasma column. Peak density is 6∗1015 cm−3 and emission from the second positive system of N2 is observed.
Experiments have demonstrated the generation of THz radiation when an intense, short laser pulse is mixed with its frequency-doubled counterpart in a gas. A number of mechanisms have been proposed to account for the observed THz radiation. Our analysis indicates that under the proper conditions the nonlinear coupling of the two short pulse lasers, one at frequency omega0 and the other at 2omega0 ,...
A negatively chirped laser pulse propagating in air compresses and focuses resulting in intensity increase and ionization near focal region. Using femtosecond laser we observe pulse compression and focusing that is controlled by induced chirp.
