In this paper we present a bottom up procedure for segmentation of text lines written or printed in the Latin script. The proposed method uses a combination of image morphology, feature extraction and Gaussian mixture model to perform this task. The experimental results show the validity of the procedure.
Achieving optimal floor-plans during the physical synthesis flow is an iterative and resource intensive process and its quality has a significant impact on subsequent synthesis stages in terms of runtime and quality of results. This problem intensifies due the abundance of macros in advance technology nodes which poses challenges in the physical design flow, especially in the floor-plan stage. It...
The main constraints in recent trends of VLSI technology are power, area and delay. CMOS designs occupy more area and dissipate more power. Power dissipation results in heating up of an IC which directly affects the reliability and performance. Multipliers are the integral part of major application systems like Microprocessor, Digital Signal Processor (DSP) etc., so it is necessary to optimize the...
Protein structure comparison is one of the most challenging problem in bioinformatics. This problem is modeled as a contact map overlap problem in which the similarity of the two proteins being compared is measured by the amount of overlap between their corresponding protein contact maps. To find a maximum overlap is proved to be an NP-hard problem in this area. Protein contact map is a two dimensional...
In this paper, a 3-hop orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) based variable- gain amplify and forward (AF) relaying network with selection combining receiver is considered, which is based on a scattered infrastructure known as shared user equipment (UE)-side distributed antenna system (SUDAS). The considered system model uses millimeter wave (mmWave) wireless links along with ultra...
This paper presents closed-form expression of average symbol error rate (ASER) for general order rectangular quadrature amplitude modulation (RQAM) with selection combining (SC) receiver in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)- based nonlinear amplify-and-forward (AF) relay network over independent and non-identically distributed (i.n.i.d.) frequency selective Nakagami-$m$ fading channel...
A highly compact continuous-time transimpedance low-pass filter (TILPF) topology is proposed that achieves a low input impedance and a 2nd-order transfer function in a single stage. This is suitable to perform current-to-voltage conversion with a built-in filtering characteristic in a passive mixer based wireless receiver. A 4th-order Butterworth prototype is designed with a cascade of the proposed...
A voltage domain correction technique is proposed to mitigate the timing skew errors in time interleaved (TI) analog to digital converters (ADCs). The proposed technique exploits the fact that any timing skew in the sampling edge of a clock results in a corresponding error in sampled voltage that propagates through the ADC. The technique intends to cancel this voltage error by applying a correction...
This paper deals with the inter-turn short circuit fault analysis of Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) inverter fed three-phase Induction Motor (IM) using Finite Element Method (FEM). The short circuit in the stator winding of a 3-phase IM start with an inter-turn fault and if left undetected it progresses to a phase-phase fault or phase-ground fault. In main fed IM a popular technique known as Motor Current...
Presently Internet of things is one of the hottest topics right now in information field of technology. Internet is now not only to connect people but also used to connect one device to another. This connection of day to day things is internet of things. In this paper it will be seen how Internet of things can be used in hospitals and health care centers. Healthcare system in past was merely based...
The Internet of Things (IoT) can be defined as an environment where internet capabilities are applied to everyday objects that have earlier not been considered as computers to provide a network connectivity that will enable these objects to generate, exchange and consume data. According to a forecast given by the Ericsson Mobility report issued in June 2016, there will be as many as 16 billion connected...
In the present work, the design of controller for complete support of a rotor by Conical Active Magnetic Bearings (AMBs) is presented. These bearings eliminate the requirement of an axial AMB which results in reduction of cost and required mounting space. The presented controller is designed with the aim to reduce the requirement of exact system modelling. Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) satisfies this...
Conical Active Magnetic Bearings (AMBs) eliminate the requirement of axial bearing for complete support of a 5-dof rotor system. In the present work, the design of conical AMB for a 5-dof rotor system is presented. A comparative analysis between conical and conventional AMB structure is done on the basis of maximum outer diameter, maximum current, maximum load capacity and power losses. Magnetic Path...
Technology pertaining to Human Computer Interaction has seen vast leaps of advancements in recent years. And so, have the hardware using those technologies. But Despite all of these advancements, users are often left disappointed. The major cause of this disappointment is mostly either of lack of usability or lack of security or sometimes both of them. This paper discusses the problem of balance between...
In the advances of application software and available digital computer technology will have more practical challenging field for Designers, Engineers and Academicians for seeking superior composite materials with their mechanical properties. In this study, Aluminum 7075 based metal matrix with Boron carbide reinforced particle to form required composite materials was manufactured by using stir casting...
Built-in Self Test (BIST) is more appropriate for testing any VLSI circuits as it provides a larger range for low power applications. Test pattern generator is the vital module in BIST. Linear Feedback Shift Registers (LFSR) is broadly used in BIST for generating test vectors as it produces highly random test pattern. This paper mainly aims at design and implementation of power efficient LFSR using...
Human activity recognition is an important problem in health care, ambient-assisted living, surveillance-based security, etc. and has crucial applications in smart environment. A non-invasive, automated system for monitoring human activity using array of heterogeneous ultrasonic sensors has been proposed in this work. Ultrasonic sensors are widely used for distance measurement in many applications...
In present scenario of the world, environmental pollution is one of the leading challenges. Most often the educational institutes and organizations in developing countries suffer from polluted environment due to overcrowded rooms, improper planning and poor infrastructure. Students/faculties in a classroom could suffer from health issues due to prolonged exposure to such environment. On an average...
The aim of research is to cut short time to report hospital in case of emergency and panic. Universally we perceive that the fundamental and contributory reasons for patients death due to failure is to reach or report hospital during emergency. This research shows a very new concept of IOMT based Medical-Aid-Alarm system which is portable in nature and is capable of reporting registered / nearby hospitals,...
Advancement in technology and rapid industrialization towards extensive use of power electronic controlled devices and enormous growth towards agriculture sector in rural areas of electrical distribution system resulted in substantial increase of power quality issues as well as reactive power requirement. Voltage drop in the system due to huge active and reactive power requirements of the loads can...
