We report a 9.1 GHz fiber-based RF frequency dissemination chain over 80 km. Using an improved phase noise compensation scheme, the frequency dissemination stability has been improved from 4×10−17/105 s to 1.1×10−18/105 s.
The authors report the recent breakthroughs of our research activities carried out in the framework of the ESO R&D programs to develop 589-nm CW sources for laser guide stars (LGS). Large telescopes equipped with adaptive optics require 20-25 W 589-nm CW light sources with an emission linewidth < 50 MHz. Towards this goal, we have been working on the development of high-power narrowband 1178-nm...
We report the results of experimental and theoretical investigations of the transmission and coupling characteristics of an in-line multimode Cr-doped fiber (MMCDF) in a single mode fiber (SMF) optical link. This is the situation involved in the employment of a broadband MMCDF optical amplifier in an optical network. The excitation of several modes in the MMCDF can lead to a severe insertion loss...
