The absolute measurement of the mass, as well as the determination of the Planck constant, has become one of the most important issues in metrology toward a new kilogram definition based on fundamental constant. A method for measuring the inertial mass, being different from the gravitational mass measurement by either a watt balance or the Avogadro project has been carried out recently at National...
This paper discusses the effect of pulse repetition rates on silicon wafer modification by four-beam laser interference. In the work, four-beam laser interference was used to pattern single crystal silicon wafers for the fabrication of dots, and different laser pulse repetition rates were applied to the process in the air. The results were obtained from 10 laser exposure pulses with the single laser...
The Joule Balance method, for the same purpose but different from the Watt Balance method, is going on at NIM for several years. The first measurement result of the Planck constant h is 6.6261(5)×10−34Js with a measurement uncertainty of 7.7 × 10−5. The further plan for improvement is discussed.
We experimentally investigate the Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) beam profile in very large core (105μm) fibers with nanosecond pulse. Both phase conjugation and mode depression effect in different conditions are achieved and studied. Beam shape of step-index (SI) fiber and graded-index (GI) fiber with same parameters are contrasted. And a mode clean up mechanism in GI fiber has been suggested.
In this paper, we demonstrate that the efficiency of diode pumped sub-200 fs slab lasers can be significantly increased by employing the Ng-cut orientation of Yb:KGW and the application of high-power broad-area diodes. Yb:KGW crystal slab is pumped by a single broad area diode which is capable to emit up to 18 W of pump power from a single emitter. The laser oscillator is solitary mode-locked by employing...
