The purpuse of the investigation was to establish technological, nutritional and storage properties of three new pumpkin varieties developed genetically at the Faculty of Horticulture, Warsaw Agricultural University, as compared to those traditionally grown in Poland, Melon Yellow (Melonowa Żółta) variety.
Two experiments were carried out on Wistar rats (both sexes). The rats were fed 30 μg(day) rat of β-carotene in oil solution, or 30 I.U. (day)rat of retinyl palmitate, and semisynthetic, vitamin A - free, diet containing 15% lard. Increase of peroxides content in lard induced a reduction in carotene utilization, as evidenced by vitamin A content in the liver.
