We propose the model of the amplification of the transform-limited pulses in a homogeneously broadened medium. The model provides the information about the output characteristics of an unchirped pulse after passing through an active homogeneously broadened medium and about the population inversion inside the medium at any moment of time.
We report on passive Q-switching of a Ho:KLu(WO4)2 (Ho:KLuW) microchip laser in-band-pumped by a Tm:KLuW laser at $\sim 1.96\mu \text{m}$ . As a saturable absorber, PbS-quantum-dot-doped glass was used which exhibits a saturation intensity of $\sim 3$ MW/cm$^{\mathrm {{2}}}$ near 2 $\mu \text{m}$ . Maximum average output power of 84 mW was achieved from the Ho laser at 2.061 $\mu \text{m}$ ...
Recently, we demonstrated extremely low threshold optical parametric generation (OPG) pumping a CdSiP2 (CSP) crystal with 500-ps-long pulses from a Nd-laser system [1]. Diode laser seeding enabled narrow-band non-critical OPG operation at 1–10 kHz repetition rate with the idler at ∼6100 nm. In comparison to [2], with a simpler Q-switching based pump system, a 4-fold improvement of the time-bandwidth...
Waveguide lasing of monoclinic KY(WO4)2:Tm3+ grown by liquid-phase epitaxy is demonstrated in the 2 mum spectral range. The maximum continuous-wave output power achieved was 32 mW in the fundamental mode.
The smallest quantum defect (1.6%) for a laser crystal is demonstrated with a 125 /spl mu/m-thin plate of stoichiometric KYb(WO/sub 4/)/sub 2/. Pumped at 1025 nm, it emitted at 1042 nm.
