This paper describes results elaborated by designing three different tubular linear drives for applications where hydraulic actuators are in common use. The superior force density of hydraulic actuators results in a challenging magnetic and mechanical design. However, electric-driven actuators offer advantages in dynamic behavior, controllability and efficiency.
Synchronous reluctance machines (SynRM) are increasingly considered as viable alternatives to conventional electrical machines in different applications. Regarding traction drives, this machine type should be studied further with respect to the basic requirements, namely efficiency, low cost and high power density.
The losses present in electrical machines are of major concern in modern industrial applications, very high speed drives, aerospace applications and the automotive industry. This paper presents the magnetic characterization of non-oriented steel sheets used for manufacturing permanent magnet synchronous machines and synchronous reluctance machines when these steel sheets are used at higher frequencies...
Measuring the load current of drive inverters is still inevitable for a precise current control. In common industrial and automotive inverters hall effect based current sensors are widely used. [1] The presented novel current measurement method is based on an inductive current sensor like a Rogowski coil. This can be fabricated much smaller and cheaper than hall based current sensors and can be integrated...
Wide-band-gap semiconductors continuously keep on pushing the limits of power electronic devices to higher switching speeds and higher operating temperatures. The proposed new gate driver circuit is designed consequently to meet the demands of these power semiconductor devices for high common mode rejection and the capability to work at high ambient temperatures.
A deterministic method for design of multiphase winding with optimal space harmonics spectrum is presented in a previous paper [1]. However, the method has its drawback, since the combination possibilities of the coil side connections increase exponentially with the number of the coils. An effective method to solve this problem is to exploit the symmetry of the winding topology by finding out the...
This paper deals with the investigation of a linear generator used in an internal combustion engine. The introduction reviews the state of the art of free-piston linear generators. Then, the mechanical structure of this generator is presented. The main part treats a finite-element-analysis (FEA) of the generator comparing different armature magnetizations with the numeric simulation program FLUX....
Starting with the lumped parameter model for electrical machines with arbitrary M phase winding, by introducing a hypothesis of M spatial symmetrical winding sheets and spatial sinusoidal distributed flux density, the M × 1 phase flux linkage vector of the hypothesis can be expressed using 2 undetermined properties: d-q flux linkage and a M × 2 transformation matrix, which characterizes the symmetrical...
Pr/sup 3+/ doped materials for potential application in Hg-free discharge lamps were spectroscopically investigated. The quantum efficiency of the cascade emission was estimated. The possible energy transfer to acceptor ions is analyzed.
