We have developed a microwave measurement system using optical fiber link transceivers for vector network analyzer (VNA). Our proposed system can extend the port of vector network analyzer using optical devices and optical fibers. Further, it can measure S-parameters in full 2-port calibration up to 4GHz. The dynamic range of S21 is found to be more than 100 dB using direct access port of VNA.
We propose an antenna gain pattern estimation method for broad band antennas. We have already reported a method for estimating the far field gain using an amplitude center modified Friis transmission formula. This equation can estimate the far field gain using near field S21(ω) measurement for two difference antenna distance. In this paper, we propose a far field gain pattern estimation method using...
We are developing a far field gain and antenna factor estimation method for broadband antenna standards. We have already proposed a method for estimating the free space antenna factor of broadband antennas using a time-domain analysis and a pulse compression technique. However to estimate the antenna factor and gain, we are using fixed antenna distance. In this paper, we propose a new estimation method...
We are developing a far field gain and an antenna factor estimation method for EMI broadband antennas using the amplitude center distance and time frequency analysis technique. Our method is using an amplitude center modified Friis transmission formula. In this paper, we show the measurement results of far field antenna factor of log-periodic dipole array antenna on an open area test site. In the...
In this paper novel methods to measure the three-dimensional position of the round hole are presented. The round holes are widely used as a reference with the positioning of the automobile body construction process. We have developed a sensor composed of a TV camera and two laser slit light sources for measuring the 3D position of the round hole. The sensor measures the coordinates of four points...
AlGaN/GaN High Electron Mobility Transistors (HEMTs) with pre-match circuit were developed for Ka-band. The developed device showed 138 GHz of fmax, which depended on the thickness of the AlGaN barrier layer and the gate length. The chip had a pre-match circuit to achieve an impedance matching at 31GHz. It had a 6.4 mm gate periphery on a metal carrier plate. The output power achieved 18.5 W with...
In this paper, we propose a pseudo-gustatory display based on the cross-modal interactions that underlie the perception of flavor. Although several studies on visual, auditory, haptic, and olfactory displays have been conducted, gustatory displays have seldom been studied. This scarcity has been attributed to the fact that synthesizing arbitrary taste from basic tastants is difficult. On the other...
This study tries to increase the effects of odors by controlling the odor emissions. We developed an olfactory feedback system to maintain user's concentration effectively based on biological information. The system presumes the level of user's concentration based on an electrocardiogram analysis. The analysis is carried out using variance of R-R intervals and frequency spectra. According to the presumed...
In this research study, we propose a divided planar-object detection method for augmented reality(AR) applications. The proposed system prepares a database of the target object's natural features, and applies progressive sample consensus (PROSAC), which is a robust estimation method, for iterative homography calculation to achieve the multiple planar-object detection. Moreover, the proposed method...
In our research demonstration, we show a "MetaCookie+" that enables the user to experience various tastes without changing the chemical composition of foods by using the influence between modalities. It is a pseudo-gustatory display by combining the Edible Marker system which can detect the state [number/shape/6-DOF coordinate] of each piece of bitten or divided food in real time, and the...
Many people have their own camera or recording devices such as cellar phones and digital cameras. When there is a big event, a lot of pictures and movies are taken from various places at the same time. People want to record events with their digital devices as a memory or remembrance. We have some services to share these photos and movies, however, there is no viewer suitable to summarize and integrate...
We produced an exhibition “Digital Public Art in HANEDA AIRPORT `AIR HARBOR' - Technology Meets Air: A Sensation of a New World” in October, 2009 at the Haneda Airport which is public space and is the biggest airport in Japan. This exhibition aims to show the new concept “Digital Public Art” which tries to evolve media art to public art. This exhibition is also an experiment to bring information technology...
The data related to our life experiences is called lifelog, which can easily be collected with mobile electronic devices in recent years. Although lifelog research has been conducted for a long time, practical applications such as a memory assistant system have not been fully developed yet. This is mainly due to the lack of methods to structurize the lifelog data efficiently. In our research, we developed...
This paper elucidates the possibilities of interactive architectural-space. Interactive architectural-space is architectural-space that is changeable or adaptable in interaction with internal and external users and environments. This paper illuminates the point which has not been focused on and describes a methodology of making a prototype of interactive architectural-space to investigate the point...
In this research, we introduce digital technology to museum environment by providing spherical image contents. This research built two systems. First, we introduce binocular-type system providing visitors with information about exhibits such as historical backgrounds and surrounding environment when used, and then projection device that creates full-image space by scanning. According to evaluation...
A purpose of this research is to improve a user's balance of income and expenditure by forecasting and presenting future consumption from past purchase information. First, we recorded various purchase information by scanning a large number of receipts and applying them to OCR (Optical Character Recognition). We named this system “Receiptlog”. From data of Receiptlog, we found out cycles of time and...
Methods for the archiving and transferring of traditional artisanship are needed, now that most of these skills are on the verge of extinction because of aging skilled craftspeople and few successors. With the aim of developing a novel digital archiving and skill-transferring system, we carried out an analysis and visualization of skills on a traditional Japanese decorative art, Kirikane, focusing...
In our research, we aim to construct the Digital Display Case system which we can introduce into exhibition rooms in museums like conventional display cases, to tell visitors the background information about the exhibit more effectively. We categorize the background information into diachronicity and synchronicity, and decide specifications of the system to convey these information. Then we construct...
We propose an optical fiber link electromagnetic interference measurement system that consists of a transmitting optical fiber link module, a receiving optical fiber link module, and a vector network analyzer. Using our proposed optical system, we can measure S21 (ω) and calculate S21 (t) for the radiated electromagnetic interference measurement. We show experimental results of S21S between a small...
We present innovative near-field test ranges, named compact-near-field (CNF) and very-near-field (VNF). These use photonic probes, and advanced near-field far-field (NFFF) transformations from amplitude and phase (complex) or phaseless measurements. The photonic probe allows AUT-probe distances of less than one wavelength. This drastically reduces test-range and scanner dimensions, improves the signal-to-clutter...
